Art Therapy for Adults

When people ask me about art therapy, they often assume it is only for children. However, art therapy is just as effective for adults. We often carry trauma from childhood that is buried away, and art therapy can help us to gently explore areas that may be beyond our conscious understanding.

Every adult is unique, so I work in a way that supports you, gently allowing you to explore aspects of yourself in a safe and compassionate space. We work in whatever way feels authentic for you—whether that is through writing, talking, or art-making. These can be used interchangeably to suit what you need.

In art therapy process is frequently more significant than a finished product

  Areas we can explore:

  • Processing deeply rooted childhood trauma or unmet needs
  • Navigating ADHD, autism, and neurodivergence in a world that moves too fast.
  • Soothing chronic anxiety, depression, and overwhelm
  • Exploring relational patterns and how we connect with other.
  • Moving through grief, loss, or major life transitions

What a session looks like:

Every session is unique, as you are not the same from week to week. This space is here entirely for you, and I will gently guide and support you at a pace that feels safe and comfortable.

To help ease any uncertainty, I would like to share a general idea of what a session may look like:

  • The Check-In: A brief space at the start to talk about how your week has been, how your mind and body are feeling, and what you might want to bring into the space.
  • The Creative Space: A quiet, reflective window where you can write, doodle, sculpt, or paint. Or if you don't feel like creating we can just sit and talk. You can talk while you create, or work in grounding silence.
  • Reflecting Together: A gentle closing chat where we look at what you created (if you want to share it) and talk about what the process felt like for you.

You do not have to be good at art to deserve the joy of creating
